Monsters On The Telly…
Ok, so I’ve really seen some fun stuff lately. A canadian kids show called Monster Warriors and new Doctor Who.
MW is a series that takes cheap B-movies with crap special effects, dodgy scripts and bad acting, it pumps them full of modern-age zazz and technology. The end result is a fun show with dodgy CGI special effects, bad scripts and crap acting – though it’s borderline if that’s just for effect!! Crazed ex-movie maker Klaus Von Steinhauer has brought his 1950s movie monsters to life and they are on the loose in Capital City, intent on wreaking extreme havoc, the only people who can save the city from total destruction are the Monster Warriors – four teenagers who share a resemblance to Ghostbusters and have invented ‘busting equipment out of vacuum cleaners and handblenders. So far I’ve seen a 60 foot bumble bee is sucking up the entire city’s electricity and a giant earthworm eating subway trains. Cheesy goodness!
The David Tennent incarnation of The Doctor had a good start-up to his run, he’s got a fresh quirkiness and bounce that gels quite well with early Eccleston. The version of New Earth looked like the old sci-fi “World of Tomorrow” or at least “Next Tuesday”, and the concept of medical testing shown really ties in to my views of successful use of, in our time, homeless folk. And hey, there were almost sexah catgirls…unfortunately, only the young nurse was hawt, and even then there was no shown tail, no shown ears and a little to much face fur.
