Comics Clearing…

30 April, 2008 (15:37) | Uncategorized

Oh boy and gee wilikers, I just spent the afternoon seperating comics that I want to keep from comics that I want to part with. It’s quite a large amount, but not really enough to dent the collection too badly.

I haven’t actually sorted through what is amongst the parting crowd, but theres a pretty large selection of lessor comics and mainstream titles (I’ve got huge runs of Nick Fury and Ghost Rider amongst Justice, Grim Jack and DP7!).

So, the question is, is there anything anybody wants me to keep an eye out for whilst I sort through them to help a collection?

I’m still trying to decide what to do with the Tomb Raider, Witchblade, Harley Quinn, Power Pack, New Mutant and Generation X comics.

Limited time offer, which will end when I’m bothered to actually list stuff.

Do you have any Sonic stuff? I doubt you might but I hear your run out there was 10 times better than Archie’s over here. Other’n that, I’m pretty much ok.

Ah, see if you’d asked about 10 years ago, I’d have been able to give you a huge back catalogue of the early Sonic comics from the UK, with the back-up sections of things like Alex Kidd, Ecco the Dolphin and that crowd, in full size weekly edition. Alas, not in my current boxes.

I will, however, keep an eye out at my local second-hand shop as the guy there often gets a load of british comics handed in.

There’s one in my keep boxes, that I found and made me think of you instantly. The DC Vertigo comic “Dead Boy Detectives”, which if I can get the Trade of it, I’ll definately have to forward your way.

Oh, and something I’ll review soon: Nash, the comic book of everyones favourite post apocolyptic, Mad Max-esque super hero Kevin Nash. Yes, I was the guy who bought issue 1 (both variant covers) and issue 2 of this cult classic. Hm, did I spell that right…’cult’?

The Ecco comics?? DAMN. ^^;; Timing…timing.
We should trade, but I’m not one to buy the comics; I usually borrow them from the library (trades), or my friends lend them to me (my friend Inuki let me run thru 52).
ooooh, comic review. ^^ I’d do that but I’m still posting about my gaming habits currently. XD I just finished uploading a pic and fixing the sidebar links (you’re the only blog listed currently that’s not mine, congrats XD).

I don’t know if you are familiar with how the UK used to do comics, but what they’d have is two stories from the title character and throw in an extra story from another series (Transformers UK used to throw in GI Joe, Zoids, Spiderman, Visionairres). Each of the stories was about as long as an american comic book, but would be on pages over A4/Letter size. Unsurprisingly, they ran out of stories a fair bit and we got fillers a lot.

The Ecco comic was quite nifty, in that the narration boxes were some form of telepathic commentary, and it had Ecco talking to glyphs, fending off sharks and nets and doing lots of twisty motions over multiple panels.

And yay, I’ll be skipping over to that thar blog soon! ^^

That’s neat. I wish American comics would do the same. It’d force those damned writers to get to the point sooner. XD
I loved Ecco as a child. ^^ Never beat it though.
I’m adding new ppl, I just dunno if some of your readers would want me to link them either. I might link some cool websites too.

Hm, let’s see: “Oi! Anyone want a free link?”

My own link policy is, if I stop by and check more than three times a week (even if I don’t comment) then I’ll likely add it because it’s of interest to me and often inspires my moods. Certain sites I check daily, some multiple times a day. Suffice to say X-E never leaves one of my browser tabs.

If you want to get rid of the Gen-X/New Mutant stuff I’d be willing to discuss it with you. Cipher and Warlock were two of my fav’s back in the day.

And thank you for the well wishes, my Dad’s operation went well now we just have to figure out what’s wrong with my wife.

Well, I have to sort through the New Mutants anyway, as I know I have some doubles. I’ll probably keep my main stock of them though, seeing as I’m only about 8 comics away from having the complete run. I like Kitty Pryde…shocking, huh?

Glad to hear your dad is on the mend, and I’ll continue channeling mojo for the Mrs Dan.

Thought I’d just show this:

2008-05-03 - Comics To Sort

About half my comic collection seperated and ready to sort, before I can actually sell them off. Shouldn’t take long to sort, just over a thousand comics and most are in runs already. Yay.

I might be interested in anything Batman related, as well as Green Lantern and Witchblade. But, I’m thinking the shipping cost from there to here wouldn’t exactly be cost effective.

Well, I know I’ve got some Huntress, a couple of Bats, a heap of Ragman (Gotham’s jewish superhero) and a bit of Green Lantern. Depends on how far removed from the main Batman comics you want to go, I’ve likely got crossovers too.

As far as shipping cost, airmail would depend on weight but it’s about [packaging] + £1.50 ($2) flat charge + £0.20 ($0.40) per every 20g over 100g and as long as the value is under $200 there shouldn’t be a customs fee in the US (as opposed to the UK where we get charged for any packages that aren’t letters). Rough guess would be 3 comics to 20g?

Takes about 3-5 to get through by airmail, apparently, but I should be able to confirm soon…in about 3-5 days time actually.

Ok, well I would be most interested in the actual Batman title, as well as Green Lantern, and Witchblade. Once you get it all sorted, you can e-mail me the list if you want. Thanks!:

Will do. I think I may be job lot selling the rest on eBay eventually, so I have excuses for listing them.

If you wouldn’t mind I’d like a copy of the list as well. You can send it to me at DHolly73@comcast.net. Thanks!

Sure thing, Dan. I’ll likely be doing some things in bits so I can make up funds whilst gradually clearing space.

My hope is at least that I can find a buyer on eBay for my complete collection of 1980s “Nick Fury” comics, that’s one that could at least cover for listing the rest and reward me with a pizza for the effort.
