A Rambling We Will Go…
Just before the New Year began I decided that I wanted to get back in to writing. It seemed to me that in 2007, as compared to the previous few years, I had lost a lot of the motivation and ability to write in either quality or quantity, most of my writing had become overly technical and of limited interest even to myself.
One part of the problem, as I saw it, was using my LiveJournal as both a site that I posted everday life and drama, and the place where I put things I view as more notable content. I saw the solution as splitting content between LiveJournal and a more dedicated site.
Since the start of the New Year, I began reviewing old articles from my LiveJournal that I was most pleased with and copying them to a self-hosted WordPress blog. I could have chosen to start with a blank slate, but some of those posts can be quite indicative of my overall personality and the sort of content I actually enjoy writing. They are also posts that I most enjoy reading.
This wasn’t without trouble, as several formatting issues cropped up due to having to run things through export and import functions. The functions would break easily when they came across symbols, such as the £ sign, and would constantly try to ‘fix’ text in to the design format it likes. As a result, I have also learnt that what you put in to the Rich Text or Code windows is not always the layout you can expect back.
These, however, are minor teething problems and do not detract from my intention or goals for this site. Format can be fixed at any time and any broken posts still exist on LiveJournal if I need to run repairs.
I do not intend to stop using LiveJournal, in fact I have made sure to grab a crosspost plug-in to ensure that new content on the WordPress blog gets copied over for people who visit me there.
As for what can be expected in the future, I’m not even sure myself. I try to keep up-to-date on the news, usually to spin it in my own disgruntled way. I enjoy a wide range of movies and don’t mind sharing my opinions. I like the notion of starting a world domination campaign. I tend to be sarcastic, darkly humoured, cynical or grouchy, and some people find entertainment in that. I’m sure that will find it’s way here in some form over the coming months.
As always, I’m always open to constructive opinions and new friends.
